How to check NHIF Account Balance

National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) is the government agency that provides Health Insurance to all Kenyans. Incepted in 1966 under the National Health Insurance Act, Cap 395, and since then being operating under the Kenya’s Ministry of Health (MOH).

NHIF is offering easy, affordable and accessible social medical insurance coverage to all Kenyans that’s 18years and above. The NHIF actually works by giving a monthly contribution to the agency account through eCitizen Platform.

The amount of fund to be contributed monthly depends on your employment status and salary. However, if you’re already a member of the NHIF and you’ve been contributing to the platform for sudden health attention or for health insurance, and you wish to know how much you’ve contributed so far, here, we will guide you through the process of checking your NHIF balance.

Checking your NHIF balance is straightforward; you can either check it online via NHIF portal or via SMS via your registered SIM card. Check NHIF balance online

Follow the steps below to check your NHIF balance online via NHIF’s self-care portal:

  • Login your account via support.nhif.or.ke/login
  • Navigate your dashboard to “Self-care Service”
  • Tap on “View Account Balance”
  • Then your NHIF Account Balance will be prompted.

In addition, you can also check your NHIF balance via NHIF’s self-care mobile app. Download the app on your phone app store, login to your account, tap on “View Account Balance” under “Self-care” tab and Voila, your account balance is displayed on the screen.

Check NHIF balance via SMS

You can also check your NHIF balance through SMS. This is the simplest and the most straightforward way to checking account balance on the NHIF platform.

Follow the steps below to check your NHIF account balance via SMS:

  • Open your phone “Messaging App”
  • Tap on “Compose” and write a letter that contains your NHIF ID, space, then your National ID Number. As in NHIFM-ID 12345678.
  • Send the composed message to “21101”
  • You will, then, receive a SMS containing your NHIF balance and other account information.

Important Notice: Upon NHIF balance request via SMS, a service fees of KSh10 will be deducted by your network provider.

Download NHIF Account Statement

Once you’ve successfully checked your account balance, you can also go ahead and download or view the account statement. If you wish to view or download your NHIF Account Statement, here’s how:

Write to NHIF customer care service via email. Describe your request as “My NHIF Account Statement”. Don’t forget to add your NHIFM-ID and National ID Number to the email. Next, send the email to customercare@nhif.or.ke.

Wait patiently for response. Probably, it take 2 to 3 business days for a NHIF customer care representative to get in touch. Once they reply, you will get a link to a downloadable PDF that’s containing your NHIF Account Statement.
